Greg Simon was born in Minnesota but has lived most of his life in the Pacific Northwest, near the Umpqua River, the Tualatin River, the McKenzie River, the Willamette River, and on Whidbey Island.  He was educated in Seattle, Iowa City, and Palo Alto, and has an MFA in Creative Writing from Stanford University. He is the co-translator, with Steven F. White and Christopher Maurer, of Federico Garcia Lorca’s Poeta en Nueva York, published by Farrar, Straus & Giroux in 1988, and reissued in a fully revised edition, in 2014. He and Steve White have also translated the poems of Ruben Dario in Ruben Dario: Selected Writings (Penguin Books, 2005); The Angel of Rain by Gaston Baquero (Eastern Washington University Press, 2006); and Seven Trees Against the Dying Light by Pablo Antonio Cuadra (Northwestern University Press, 2007). He has edited Heart of Darkness by Ferida Durakovic (White Pine Press, 1988), and Soul Barnacles: ten more years with Ray by Tess Gallagher (The University of Michigan Press, 2000). He has been a contributing and translation editor for Porch, White Pine Press, The Salt River Review, and Trask House Books. He has published poems, translations, essays and reviews in The American Poetry Review, The New Yorker, The New Republic, and Northwest Review. He has published two books of original poetry: The Voyage of No Return (Breakwater Press, 1982), and Follow Her (Cave Moon Press, 2019.) He lives and works in an old wooden house above the west bank of the Willamette River in Portland, Oregon.
